Quick Overview

For the Good of Humanity celebrates the first 75 years of the University of San Carlos College of Engineering and the 50th anniversary of the Technological Center, now called the Fr. Lawrence W. Bunzel Building. Sifting through the archives of the University and gathering over 650 photographs in this single collection, this 280-page book tells the story of the pioneers, builders, benefactors, innovators, visionaries and technopreneurs of the USC College of Engineering. The book begins with the pre-war years and the massive rebuilding that took place soon after the World War II. It highlights the early successes in the licensure examinations of the '50's that sparked the rapid growth of the college, prompting the SVD priests who administer the University to invest in a plot of land in Talamban in the 60's and to expedite the construction of the Technological Center. Nationalism of the 70's ushered in a change in leadership but also turned off the tap of foreign support, nevertheless the College of Engineering continued to set standards with new programs and the computerization throughout this decade and into the '80s. Renewed foreign partnership through the NUFFIC program in the '90s set the stage for the college's foray into the new millennium with its accompanying challenge of global integration. More than that, For the Good of Humanity features how Carolinian engineers have contributed to society through their profession. While not inclusive, this book takes a glimpse into how Carolinians engineers have contributed to the society through their profession. While not all inclusive, this book takes a glimpse into how Carolinians have benefitted the Filipino people and the global community from Costa Rica to Singapore starting with structural engineers who shaped the massive post-war reconstruction and sparked the sprawling development in the northern Cebu City suburbs, from the stories of engineers working for multinational companies to entrepreneurs who established successful homegrown businesses, and from within corporate boardrooms to online patent searches and applications leading to start-ups. This book bring hopes to bring nostalgia to alumni who will peruse its pages and inspire future generations who aspire to become engineers for the good of humanity.

For the Good Humanity: The First 75 Years of the USC College of Engineering is his second coffee table book after co-authoring Celebrating Milestones: 75 Years of SVD Mission in the University of San Carlos.
