        Quick Overview

Lapulapu: The Conqueror of Magellan is an English translation of a 1938 Cebuano novel by the educator-author Vicente Gullas. The only full-length book on the life of Lapulapu, albeit fictional, it illustrates how Lapulapu has been invented and reinvented through the centuries. An introductory essay by Resil B. Mojares sums up what has been written about Lapulapu in history, folklore and popular literature, and reflects on the contested meanings and contemporary significance of the hero.
