Journal Proposal Reviewers’ Functions
The following sections outline the roles of relevant units with institutional functions
aligned with USC’s research and publication units in terms of reviewing the
proposals for the creation and adoption of journals.
USC Publishing House (USCPH).
This office’s role revolves around publishing
management and process compliance. Specifically, it will initially review the
submission requirements for compliance. Then, it will assess the feasibility, editorial
and publishing standards of the applying journals. Based on the results of this
assessment, the unit will either assist the proponents in refining the proposal—if
improvements are needed—or forward the complete and compliant documents to
the Research, Development, and Publications Office (RDEPO) for further review.
Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA).
Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs (OVPAA). This office’s role
revolves around oversight and quality assurance. Specifically, it will act on the
recommendations for recognitions provided by RDEPO and USCPH, and issuance
of final approval or disapproval of the proposals. Upon approval, the office shall
endorse the onboarding and institutional integration of the applying journal.
Research, Development, Extension, and Publications Office (RDEPO).
This
office’s role revolves around scholarly merit, research integrity and institutional
coordination. Specifically, it will review the applying journals for scholarly
contribution, sustainability, and alignment with the University of San Carlos’
research agenda.Further, it will provide insights or remarks on possible topic overlap,
niche and relevance, competition with other journals, and institutional support.
